Shape of Memory is about how my grandparent's met, faced the odds of social, economical and physical barriers, and eventually married. 
Through the lense of my Grandfather's life, I gained a new faith in the unknown. This is a reminder for you and I - that to be here now, truly extraordinary measures had to be taken.

I am&#38;nbsp; founder, lead composer, and front man for Mother Falcon, an alternative music ensemble that has performed across America, including performances on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, SXSW, the Kennedy Center, and Joe’s Pub in NYC. &#38;nbsp;
We’ve released 5 records and 6 scores - the latest, America Blood Song, for which we won the 2019 B. Iden Payne Award for original score. &#38;nbsp;

Your Hometown is a podcast centered around the childhood stories of prominent guests, discovering how their lives are shaped by where and when they were from. Each season focuses on a different city with this season focused on New York and guests ranging from Neil DeGrasse Tyson to Sigourney Weaver.

I worked primarily as the art director for the first season, developing the aesthetic and drawings/animations that paired with each guest. 


 I also worked as a story editor for a few episodes and developed the UX and design for an initial iteration of an in-development app building off the themes within the Your Hometown universe.

Portraits &#38;amp; Maps


Each drawing focused on a decisive moment within their childhood that defined their path foward, from Neil looking up to the moon for the first time to Sherrilyn Ifill witnessing Barbara Jordan at the Watergate hearings.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;
Stylistically, I drew upon the visual historical context of when these events were occuring in the guest’s lives, and also the emotional energy from the guest’s retelling during the interviews.&#38;nbsp; 
The ultimate goal was to create images that would leave the viewer with a question, a visual hook answered by listening through the interviews.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;Each drawing took multiple iterations and was reformated to serve the different marketing platforms.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;
The maps were a natural extension of that pinnacle moment portrayed in the main illustrations. Each map details significant moments in their narrative, sequentially placed following the interview.&#38;nbsp;

StoryMap App Mockup


This application allows people to place audibly-recorded stories on a shared map, archiving all the stories of a particular geography for centuries to come.&#38;nbsp; 
Experience: Primarily focused on the phone - The user will be able to zoom in on a map, find a location and record a story. The user would locate the desired spot, pin it, and then record the message. After the recording ( max 3 min ) is done, the user will be asked if they want to keep the recording and if so, an approval to submit.
This iteration boiled down the interactions to two key points, to tell or to listen.&#38;nbsp; In each direction, you are given prompts to either respond or listen to.&#38;nbsp; This is an ongoing project.&#38;nbsp;

Each capsule contains a poem. As the visitor gets closer to the capsules that sprinkle the landscape, one hears cascading whispers.
By entering the capsules, the visitor enters the threshold of a poem, whispered and written by diasporic Chinese poets. In the year where live poetry readings have become a distant memory, the capsules sing to us from the afterlife. 
The bilingual poems interweave Mandarin and English to collectively sing, grieve and heal towards a shared past and future.
I held two roles, composition in collaboration with Lucy Yao and the spatialization of audio.Each poem capsule is colored to reflect the language of recitation.&#38;nbsp; Poems decay at different times from different distances, with the attenuation zones intentionally overlapping to create moments where the languages fade into sonic textures. &#38;nbsp;The musical and recitation sounds were routed to two separate mixers. The mixers had 5 states, each with different levels for the sonic elements.&#38;nbsp; As you enter the drone zone, the bass of the musical elements swell from below, only leaving you once you pass into the beam of light, where all ambience is cut, leaving you alone with the poem

	Mother Falcon Music Lab (MFML) is a multimedia education program which highlights creativity as a means of self discovery, innovation and community connection.
MFML employs over 20 working artists each year for our annual summer camp and partners with diverse local organizayions to provide interactive workshops and profession development training through the year.&#38;nbsp;
As Creative Director, I focus on developing the aesthetic and media-centric elements of the education, working with the curriculum development team on building an educational framework that highlights the conceptual overlaps between mediums (music, design, animation etc.). By the end of each camp session, students would have a band, logo, animation and lighting design for the final showcase.

	Origin
Born out of award winning band Mother Falcon’s desire to share their rich collaborative experience writing music together, the centering of creative play at any skill level has translated across an array of artistic mediums now included in the program.
We started with nine students in the summer of 2012 and have grown to host one hundred students over two summer sessions.

The Logo
Our focus is on helping students realize their voices through collaboration, and through this process, build a world of their own.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;The logo captures this world building by portraying a saturn-like world, with the rings formed from a rotated f-hole, the holes in a string instrument and visually the connection to music.For camp merch, I abstracted the logo into two birds attached at the tail feathers, with one bird unfurling into the other,&#38;nbsp; representing the transformation into one’s creative self.

	Promotional Material
The design focused on portraying the students and inspiring the youth to embrace diversity within all realms of creation. I select a band photo, choose a color template for the session year, and proceed to digitally collage a world around them.
Materials are made for both print and digital distribution.In addition, I develop the video assets for camp, in particular a promotional series for our Ableton Class that challened participants to record 4 items within reach and make a groove. &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;


In response to COVID-19 and the safety of our students and staff, we have moved the camp and showcase online. I collected all the final products from each class and with the help of the production team, built narrative arcs and visuals to create a sense of community in these digitally-removed times.

Doors We Open is an interactive short film that tells the story of Wen, a young Chinese illustrator, on his return home to a single father after several years apart. The pair have a contentious relationship. Wen’s father, having failed as a musician in his youth, strongly opposes Wen’s creative aspirations and wants to protect his son from the same future. However, Wen refuses to pursue anything else but his dream, and resents his father for limiting him. Over their few days together, they revive old arguments, brood over past actions, and speculate on their futures. We experience their reflections, memories, and dreams through their individual perspectives as they attempt to reconnect and come to an understanding with one another.


Doors We Open experiments with interactivity in film to combine the meticulously controlled storytelling of traditional film and the agency and emotional investment evoked by an immersive game.
This screen-based interactive film alternates between live action shot sequences and virtual 3D gameplay. The live action scenes depict reality, centering around the domestic drama and tension between father and son, while the virtual sequences explore the subconscious mind and glimpses of the memories of our characters. These are stylized dream sequences where the audience will become an active participant that can interact with artifacts and memories that tell a deeper story.
Interactivity is not used here to affect the outcome of the story, but to allow viewers the agency to investigate the deeper emotional architecture at their own pace to develop empathy towards both characters’ perspectives in a clash of culture and generations.

f.rm&#38;nbsp;is a browser-based experience that allows the user to deform a 3D scanned self portrait. This experiment is the beginning of an exploration into frequency-reactive 3D modeling and how their relatioship changes the physical and emotional accessibility of each field’s form &#38;amp; practice - from voice-activated assistive modeling tools to virtual sculptures spatializing music’s internal systems.

The Belasco Projection project involved concept development, model building, and projection mapping interactive visuals on said model for three scenes of a speculative production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Belasco Theatre in New York City. 

Inspired by Matthew Barney’s Cremaster Cycle "The Order”, the architecture of the interior of the Guggenheim was a driving force in terms of the set design and subsequent&#38;nbsp; projection design.

* Spatialized Synesthesia is a sound/light experience that lets you hear the light by delaying the incoming sound, translating the frequencies into light and subsequently into sound through a quadrophonic speaker setup.&#38;nbsp; 
Light physicalized the electrical&#38;nbsp;current, and with that, the physical form of the traveling sounds. LED strips physicalize the&#38;nbsp; a light “chase” effect, illustrating the idea of a current / audio signal flow. &#38;nbsp;The color spectrums are determined by frequency ranges.&#38;nbsp;
